This center was founded in late 2001 at the Scuola Normale by three university institutions in Pisa: the University of Pisa, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the Scuola Normale Superiore.

The most recent results of the group in this field include the theory of optimal transport, the well-posedness of transport and continuity equations with irregular data, generalized graphs and their singularities, the problems of parabolic evolution (for measures, surfaces, harmonic maps), Geometric Measure Theory in metric spaces.

The agreement between CNRS and the SNS is concluded for a four-year term starting 1st January 2012.
