Professor of Theoretical Physics at Scuola Normale since 2005.
Laurea in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1978 (Advisors: Prof. B. Crosignani and Prof. P. Di Porto), M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech in 1979, Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Caltech in 1983 (Advisor: Prof. J.H. Schwarz). Research Fellow at Caltech in 1983-84, then Miller Research Fellow at U.C. Berkeley (1984-86). Junior Faculty at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (1986-94), then Associate Professor (1994-99) and Professor (2000-2005). The research activity has been devoted to the quantization of the gravitational field, to String Theory, to Conformal Field Theory and to Higher-Spin Gauge Fields. Visiting Professor at several international Institutions, including U. Brussels, CERN, DESY, U.C.L.A., IAS Princeton, Humboldt Universitat, U. Cambridge, U. Oxford, Ecole Normale Superieure, IHES, Ecole Polytechnique, UAM Madrid, U. Uppsala, U. Warsaw. He received the Carosio Prize from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1979, a Miller Fellowship from U.C. Berkeley in 1984, and shared with Massimo Bianchi the 1994 SIGRAV Prize of the Italian Society of General Relativty and Gravitation. He was Andrejewski Lecturer at Humbodt Universitat in Berlin in 1999.
