The colleges
The Normale provides its students of
the undergraduate programme with an accomodation in a single bed
bedroom in one of the colleges of the Scuola. All the colleges are
located in the center of the town of Pisa very near to the tecture
rooms, the laboratories and the students' restaurant.
Opened in 2006, it is the most recent dormitory of the Scuola Normale, purchased and managed in cooperation with the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.
The Collegio Timpano was initially the residence for women students of the Scuola Normale Superiore. Now it functions as a residence for students and visitors and is divided internally in three residences: Timpano, Timpanino and Acconci. The building, located along the Arno River, on the Lungarno Pacinotti, was donated to the Scuola Normale in 1932 by the Calabrese Domenico Timpano, a colorful personality who had made money by producing tonic drinks containing alcohol at his pharmaceutical company and selling them in the United States during the period of Prohibition.
It opened in 1995 and houses up to 91 students. Fully equipped shared facilities are available, such as a billiard and table tennis room, a gym room, a projector room, a music room, a computer room, a laundry room and some study rooms.
Housing 46 students, it is the smallest of the Scuola Normale dormitories. Lecture rooms and recreational spaces are available for the students. The dormitory is in via S. Apollonia No. 29.
