At the end of February, 1562, Giorgio Vasari presented Cosimo I with the model for Palazzo della Carovana. In accordance with the principle with which the architect had rethought the whole square, the building was to use as fully as possible the older structure called Palazzo degli Anziani, respecting its preexisting spaces while unifying them behind an elegant façade.

It stretches over five floors, with a total area of 3 thousand square meters.
Opened in 1971, is dedicated to Alessandro D'Ancona, director of the Normal from 1892 to 1900.

The Palazzo dell'Orologio now contains the Library of the Scuola Normale Superiore. Its current aspect is the result of transformations which took place one after another from the middle ages up to the 20th century.

Palazzo del Capitano
The Palazzo del Capitano is a set of buildings formed by the union of medieval towers which over time had been built one very close to each other. Its entrance is from Piazza del Castelletto, but its austere façade dominates via Ulisse Dini, the curved street which arrives in Piazza dei Cavalieri.

The Palazzo del Castelletto, located in the square with the same name, is one of the most recent buildings purchased by the Scuola Normale. It had been home to the historic Pisan publishers Nistri-Lischi; it was in very bad conditions and was restored based on a project by the engineer Giuseppe Bentivoglio.

This building lies on the east side of Piazza dei Cavalieri. It has a complementary role to Palazzo della Carovana since the compositional outlines of the two façades are analogous. Many scholars attribute the original design to Giorgio Vasari.

The only building belonging to the Scuola Normale Superiore which is outside Pisa is in the Arezzo province. Located in the city of Cortona, it is called the Palazzone, and it contains a center for academic activities, for conferences and for the University Orientation Courses.
Palazzo Puteano
Palazzo Puteano
The Puteano Residence is the only structure surviving from the original system of university residences in Pisa. The building in on the west side of Piazza dei Cavalieri and it was completed under Ferdinando I based on Vasari's project.
Compendio San Silvestro
Compendio San Silvestro
The set of buildings called the Compendio or Complesso di San Silvestro is located in an irregularly-shaped, tree-lined square near the Arno River.
