Programma

The seminar intends to propose a path of reading and analysis aimed at systematically tracing and presenting the thematic, stylistic and socio-cultural peculiarities through which the Orlando Furioso has played a modeling function over the centuries, both at a literary and editorial level and figurative, above all due to its very early configuration as a printed book. With more than 250 editions in the Sxteenth century alone, Ariosto's poem passed through the hands of readers of different social classes and cultural levels, was rewritten (sequels, prequels, spiritualisations, etc.) and listed in linguistic dictionaries, translated, dramatized and set to music, made emblematic and memorable through the punctual illustration of its stories and characters. The crossing and systematization of this intricate galaxy of authors, texts, stories and images will be the task of the course.

Obiettivi formativi

The course aims to introduce the research tools and textual analysis that can improve the historical, linguistic and stylistic understanding of the 16th Century Italian literature, and the investigation of the dynamics of cultural memory and the diachronic and interdisciplinary reuses of thematic and stylistic topoi.
