Programma

In this 20-hour module (10 weeks) attention will be paid to the narrative dimension of divine space. Theogony, hymns, tragedies, etymological and philosophical discourses, narratives on feasts and epiphanies offer different modes of narratives that construct the spatial dimension of worship. How are these narratives shaped? With what purpose? Which categories? What is emphasised in the divine space (altar, statues, 'natural' elements or landscapes...)? These are some of the questions that will guide the narrative exploration of divine space, starting from the principle that space is not a mere frame but an actor in the narrative.

Obiettivi formativi

The course aims to offer, through the chosen topic, an articulated picture of polytheisms and monotheisms of Antiquity, spanning different cultural, linguistic and historical contexts. On the methodological level, emphasis will be placed on the contribution of narratology to the analysis of texts describing "divine" contexts.
