Programma
The First World War acted in two conflicting ways in European art: it accentuated the rediscovery of national artistic tradition and, at the same time, accelerated the propagation of the visual idioms of the international avant-garde. The course aims to investigate these two processes by following the work of some Italian artists (Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi) from 1915 to 1920.
Obiettivi formativi
The main educational objective of the course is to interpret the work of some Italian artists during the years of the First World War (and in the immediate aftermath of its conclusion) through an in-depth analysis of their visual language choices in relation to the changed cultural and political scenario of Italy and Europe.
Riferimenti bibliografici
Specific bibliographical references for the course will be given at the beginning of the classes.
