Italian Avant-garde and European Modernism 1910-1920 (Ordinario)
Prerequisiti
The course is recommended for undergraduate and PhD students.
Programma
Since 1910, with the first Futurist paintings, modern Italian art inaugurated a dialogue both productive and problematic with the international avant-garde, the 'isms' that affirmed themselves in Europe for the following decade. The course aims to discuss modes, steps and contradictions of this dialogue. The main theme will be that of the relationship between Italian artistic identity and international visual languages: this relationship will constantly be investigated through the direct interrogation of artworks and writings contemporary to them
Obiettivi formativi
The main training objective of the course is to examine and interpret the works of the Italian avant-garde and of the coeval international modernism through a method of rigorous visual philology and of historical and cultural contextualisation
Riferimenti bibliografici
