Medieval History - The ethics and the office in the exercise of the potestas (c. 1220-1260)
Prerequisites
The course is designed for ordinary students but advanced ones are also invited.
Programme
Taking its cue from the literature on the professional exercise of power, composed between the 1220s and the 1260s, the course focuses on the continuous reshaping of an ethic that is not only a professional, but also - to varying degrees depending on the texts and their contexts of production – a cetual and an individual one, a changing ethic that well reflects the incessant experimentation that accompanies the establishment of the populus. There are planned external professors’ lessons.
Educational aims
To improve a critical approach to the sources, investigating the cultural as well as the socio-political contexts of their production.
