Prerequisiti

The prerequisite is the attendance of and participation in Part 2 of the course, on Heidegger's reading of Aristotle in Marburg.

This part, though open to BA and MA students, is particularly designed to make room for Ph.D students' seminar presentations.

Programma

Heidegger gives us a new interpretation of Aristotle, as we have seen in the part of the course preceding this class. And yet, some of his pupils find it necessary to put in question both traditional readings of Plato and Aristotle and their teacher's lesson. In fact, they define their philosophy as a critical reading of classical Greek thought. The relation with Plato and Aristotle becomes decisive, and divisive, in Klein, Strauss, Arendt, Gadamer, Jonas. The definition of modernity as opposed to antiquity thus becomes a central question (Blumenberg will be studied as one example of this point).

Obiettivi formativi

The goal is to acquire the skills to actively and co-operatively participate in the seminar discussion as well as to give a clear, well-organized and stimulating presentation and to manage the ensuing discussion
