Italian textual criticism - The “Corpus Avalle”: lemmatization and interpretation

Monday, 4 November 2019 to Saturday, 13 June 2020
Total hours: 40
Hours of lectures: 40

Examination procedure

  • Report or seminar

No prerequisites are required.

The “Corpus Avalle” was published in 1992, and is now searchable on line in the OVI web site in a non-lemmatized version, which strongly limits its performance for research. The course will deal with the retrieval of the lemmatization, which was implemented using obsolete IT procedures. The discussion about lemmatization’s criteria and tools will involve both philological and critical interpretation, in the plural linguistic identity of ancient Italian.

Educational goals:

Learning philology, developing interpretation competences, dealing with digital humanities.
