In this course we will cover the physics of galaxies and the cosmic web. Motivated by topical cosmological research, classes will comprise a mix of pedagogical lectures and Key Lectures given by top international scientists. Topics include galaxy formation and evolution, galactic structure and environment, the interstellar mediium, the first stars and black holes, radiation from the first objects, the thermal and ionization history of the intergalactic medium. Special attention will be devoted to what can be learned from current and upcoming observational efforts.
The course aims to offer students a broad and diversified perspective of the problems in the fields of Astrophysics and Cosmology, accompanied by a more general initial introduction. The most relevant issues and open problems in various sub-areas will be presented by internationally renowned experts with whom the students will have the opportunity to interact intensely, also informally, under the guidance of the two teachers.
