What is the Scuola di Orientamento Universitario?
The Scuola di Orientamento Universitario (University Orientation School, the result of the collaboration of the Normale and Sant'anna) is intended for students enrolled in the penultimate year of upper secondary school, with a personal and academic profile of high merit and an average of no less than 8/10. Each initiative includes several days of residential activities where students will be able to learn about the contents and perspectives of a university path of excellence focused on enhancing individual potential and with a critical approach to particularly up-to-date teaching and research topics.
In addition to classroom teaching, a multidisciplinary activity is offered, organized in round tables dedicated to macro themes discussed by exponents of the main research fields of the two Scuole and open to interventions by students. Furthermore, workshops are planned at which groups of students can try their hand at practical applications of the topics covered in the morning. All in a residential context, with the constant support of tutors from the two Scuole.
How to access the courses
Students must register their application independently by connecting to the page www.scuolaorientamento.it by 13 May 2024. Please note that only those applications will be considered valid to which the certification of academic results extracted from the electronic register or provided in PDF format by the student's school of appurtenance are attached.
All the instructions for participation are also published on the websites of the Scuola Normale and the Scuola Sant'Anna
Selection criteria
The selection procedure will be carried out by a Commission made up of representatives of the two Scuole Universitarie. On the basis of the applications received, the Commission will select the candidates to be admitted to the Courses by evaluating their academic results and personal profile.
Regarding academic results, the final average of the third year and the average of the first term of the ongoing school year will be evaluated. The average is calculated including all subjects (including conduct and physical and sports sciences) excluding the grade for religious education, as this is an optional subject.
To ensure a balanced representation of the national school population, the participants will also be selected on the basis of a division between 5 regional macro-areas (North West, North East, Centre, South and Islands) taking into account the number of recommendations received and/or the number of schools involved.
Finally, a further criterion will be that participation in only one orientation course is permitted, including those organized independently by the Scuola Normale Superiore.
The list of selected students and their respective assignment to courses will be published on the websites of the two Scuole Superiori Universitarie (Sant'Anna and Normale) by mid-June.
Admitted students will receive an invitation letter containing all the information for participation in the activities at the e-mail address stated when registering their application.
The programmes of the two courses, designed in agreement between the two Scuole, will focus on lectures, round tables, seminars and workshops in such a way as to offer similar opportunities to the participants regardless of the course to which they are assigned. The assignment of the students admitted to the courses will be carried out during the selection phase, taking into account the availability stated by the students in their application form, with attention to a balanced representativeness of the group in terms of geographical origin, school attended and university study interests.
