The colleges and the canteen

For the Scuola collegial life constitutes a specific characteristic of the educational model of the Normale. Collegial life is not only an effective logistic solution but also an opportunity to create a strong sense of community, to enable new students to have an early contact with research - thanks to the contact between students, researchers and lecturers - and to experience interdisciplinary skills.

In addition to the reimbursement of tuition fees and a small monthly grant, the students of the Scuola in Pisa are granted free accommodation (single room with bathroom) at one of the colleges of the Scuola for the duration of their academic career, and free board at the Scuola’s canteen. The students of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, in Florence, are granted accommodation at the Capitini Residence, provided with 24 mini-lodgings and large common areas for study and leisure activities.

Accommodation in the colleges

The following students have the right to accommodation:

students of the Scuola; exchange scholarship holders; winners of the PhD course (to whom, in the event of non-availability of accommodation in the colleges, a supplementary contribution of € 4,800.00 per year for external accommodation is paid).

The structures:

  • Collegio Fermi -  46 single rooms with bathroom.
  • Collegio Timpano -  110 single rooms with bathroom
  • Collegio Carducci -  91 single rooms with bathroom.
