Programma del corso

The course will cover selected topics in condensed matter physics.

It will include the following series of talks on:

Electron transport in low-dimensional systems, Denis Basko (Université Grenoble Alpes and CNRS) - 20 hours (February-May 2022)
Electron-electron interactions in quantum dots, universal Hamiltonian, Coulomb blockade, sequential tunneling
Cotunneling transport through quantum dots in the Coulomb blockade regimeKondo effect in quantum dots
Anderson localization of non-interacting electrons in a disordered potential
Dynamic localization in periodically driven systems
Electron-electron collisions in quantum dots, many-body localization
Electron-electron interaction effects on electron scattering by impurities
Instabilities of interacting electron liquid in one dimension
Peierls transition and topological excitations in polyacetylene
Hopping conduction in Anderson insulators

Graphene-based technologies, Vittorio Pellegrini (IIT-Genova and Bedimensional) - 6 hours (April-May 2022)

Coherent heat transport in nanosystems, Francesco Giazotto (NANO-CNR, Pisa) - 6 hours (March-April 2022)

Fundamentals of spintronics, Marco Affronte (Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR) - 6 hours (May 2022)

Quantum detection systems, Carlo Sirtori (Ecole Normale Supérieure, Parigi) - 6 hours (May-June 2022)

The course will also include a selection of research talks that will be announced during the year. As a proficiency test for the course, first year PhD students should present a seminar on a topic related to those covered in the series of talks, while second year PhD students should present a seminar on a topic related to their own PhD research project.
