He was educated at the University of Pisa and at the Scuola Normale, where he held an undergraduate and post-graduate scholarship in Ancient history and classical philology. In co-advisorship with the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich, his doctoral research focused on Roman Lycia (political and institutional profile, social history, romanization). He is interested in the history of Greece and Asia Minor during the Hellenistic and imperial periods, especially through the analysis of inscriptions. In addition to the study of epigraphical texts, he dealt with some topics in Greek historiography and the history of Miletus from the 4th century to the age of Augustus
