 PhD admission competition

 All PhD courses are open to Italian and non-Italian students

Prerequisites

All Ph.D. courses are open to students of Italian and non-Italian citizenship.
Those who are admitted to our Ph.D courses receive a scholarship that includes a contribution to their accommodation, and have the right to free meals at the facilities of the Scuola.

No enrolment fee is required, and the Normale will reimburse the regional tax for the right to study.

All students have the right to further funds for their research activities, including those carried out abroad.

For each Ph.D. course one place is reserved for candidates who have obtained the degree qualifying them for admission to the selection process at non-Italian universities. For the  Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, the places reserved are attributed by means of a special call (hereinafter referred to as “Call reserved for those graduating abroad”); for the other two faculties, the reservation operates within the rankings of the general call.

All candidates may apply who, independently of their citizenship:

  • will have obtained a master's degree in Italy or an equivalent  degree from a non-Italian university by 31st October 2021;
  • were born after 31st  October 1989.

Admission to the Ph.D. courses will be based on the academic assessment of the candidates and on interviews.
