Study free of charge

Undergraduate courses at the Normale (degree and Master's degree) include three macro disciplinary areas: Letters and philosophy, Sciences and political-social Sciences (the latter only for Master's degree). Admission to the Scuola Normale is through an extremely selective competition, based solely on merit. Those selected undertake to follow both the courses taught at the SNS and the corresponding university courses, respecting rigorous teaching obligations.

All this requires dedication and passion, but is rewarded by the possibility of experiencing a stimulating and highly educational environment, without any expenses. In fact, studies at the Normale are free of charge: university tuition fees are fully reimbursed; the courses at the Normale are free, as are accommodation and board; each student, in addition to being able to freely use the research facilities and equipment, the laboratories and the library, and to receiving reimbursements for any study stays in Italy and abroad, is entitled to an annual allowance.

PhD students live in a highly specialized environment, open to discussion and dialogue between students and lecturers who come from all over the world. Carrying out research at the Normale also means having the opportunity to collaborate with research groups, centres and laboratories, both within the SNS as well as in Italy and abroad.
The competition to access the PhD courses is based on qualifications and exams, and is open to graduates from all over the world: there are usually around 90 places, and on average 30% of those admitted come from abroad. With admission, students benefit from a scholarship, as well as additional contributions for research activities in Italy and abroad.
