A graduate in Physics, at the start of his research activity he operated in the sectors of advanced lithography and scanning probe microscopy. In 1999 he joined the technical-scientific personnel of the Scuola Normale, where in 2008 he became chief operating officer (COO) of the NEST laboratory, the nanosciences centre of the Normale.
Over the years he has been engaged in activities linked to innovation, taking on the role of technical-scientific director of the Centro di Competenza NEST sulle Nanotecnologie (CCNEST) [the NEST Centre of Competences regarding Nanotechnologies (CCNEST)], a centre co-funded by the Tuscany Region devoted to technology transfer in the nanotechnology sector. In 2021 he attained a master's degree in Management of Research, Innovation & Technology at the Politecnico di Milano, MIP. In 2021 he was appointed Manager of the Area Ricerca e Innovazione (the Research and Innovation Area) of the Normale, dealing with the management of research, technology transfer, research assessment and open science.
On 2nd May 2025 he was appointed Director of the Area Manageriale Ricerca, Patrimonio e Acquisti (the Managerial Area for Research, Property and Acquisitions) of the Scuola.
