Luigi Battezzato

The main field of research of Luigi Battezzato is ancient Greek literature. He is the author of the following books:  Il monologo nel teatro di Euripide (Pubblicazioni della Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa 1995),  Linguistica e retorica della tragedia greca (Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura, Rome 2008, second edition 2018), Euripides’ Hecuba (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 2018), Leggere la mente degli eroi: Ettore, Achille e Zeus nell’Iliade (Edizioni della Normale, Pisa 2019), Plot and Character in the Iliad: Reading the Hero's Mind (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 2026). He published Italian translations of Aeschylus' Choephori (BUR, Milan 1995, with notes), and Euripides' Hecuba (BUR, Milan 2010). He also edited a book on A. E. Housman, with unpublished documents (A. E. Housman, L’applicazione del pensiero alla critica del testo, Pisa 2021). His other publications deal with problems in the history of Greek literature and culture,Greek metre and language, textual criticism and history of classical scholarship.

Luigi Battezzato is full professor of Greek literature at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, since November 2020. He was associate (2005-2017) and then (2017-2020) full professor of Greek literature at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale. He was Visiting Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford and visiting professor at the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori di Pavia and at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon.
