Mario Piazza is a full professor of Logic at the Scuola Normale Superiore since the academic year 2017-18. He held the position of vice-director at the institution from 2019 to 2022 and currently serves as the coordinator of the PhD Program in Philosophy.

He obtained his master's degree in Philosophy from the "La Sapienza" University of Rome and completed his doctorate in Philosophy of Science at the University of Genoa. He subsequently conducted research at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Utrecht, and the Department of Computer Science at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He has held the position of full professor of Logic at the University of Chieti-Pescara and has taught numerous courses and seminars at various European, American, and Asian universities.

His research activity primarily focus on:

  • Logic and its relationships with: philosophy in general, the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of science, artificial intelligence, and human reasoning.
  • The proof-theory for classical logic and non-classical logics.
  • Incompleteness of formal theories and the nature of mathematical truth.
  • The theory of computation.
  • Epistemological and ancient philosophical themes.

He has been and continues to be responsible for research projects, both national and international, in the fields of logic, philosophy of mathematics, and theory of cognition.

He is a corresponding fellow of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
