IT Department

The IT Department (Servizio Sistemi Informativi) oversees the analysis and development of the School’s digitalisation and paperless processes, with the aim of simplifying procedures and improving efficiency and service quality. It designs, procures and manages IT solutions that support teaching, research and administrative activities, ensuring integration and interoperability across platforms and infrastructures, with a strong focus on security and traceability and an approach centred on accessibility, usability and the overall quality of digital services.

Applications and platforms

  • Analysis, optimisation and governance of digital processes, reducing reliance on paper-based documentation and improving operational continuity and service quality.
  • Design, procurement, configuration and management of institutional platforms and applications supporting administrative, teaching and research activities (e.g. U-GOV and related services, document management and digital preservation, digital signature).
  • Integration and orchestration across applications and infrastructures, ensuring interoperability, security, traceability and service continuity (e.g. access control and time & attendance systems).
  • Oversight of enabling tools and services for institutional processes, including authorisation workflows and signature services, in line with administrative procedures and requirements.

Web development and data analytics

  • Design, development and maintenance of institutional web services and applications supporting administration, teaching and research, with reusable and modular solutions.
  • Adoption of Italian Public Administration digital service guidelines and resources from Designers Italia / Design System .italia, with attention to accessibility, usability and a consistent user experience.
  • Design and management of data warehouses, Business Intelligence systems, dashboards and reports to support decision-making, including analysis and monitoring activities.
  • Management and continuous improvement of the institutional website and related sites, in collaboration with the relevant communication structures, ensuring ongoing updates, quality and accessibility.
  • Experimentation and introduction of innovative solutions, including automation and AI-based tools, with attention to transparency, security and data protection.

Michele Fiaschi

Since December 2013 I have served as Head of the IT Department (Servizio Sistemi Informativi) at the Scuola Normale Superiore, where I have been working since 2009. Previously, I worked as a freelance professional developing websites, digital services and multimedia applications for public and private organisations.
