Prerequisiti
The seminar is intended for undergraduate and PhD students of the Humanities Class. Given the subject matter, which covers artistic, political, ideological and cultural-historical culture, it is intended for an audience not exclusively of art historians
Programma
Art and Politics in Italian 20th Century up the Second World War
The seminar will examine the most relevant episodes of the dialogue between Italian artists and political ideas and events from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. The topics covered in this part of the seminar will be: artworks with explicit socialist and anarchist content up to the First World War; Futurism and its political ideologies; ‘Fascist Art’ or ‘Art of the Fascist Era’; Fascist public art; the Second Thirties and the artists protected by Giuseppe Bottai.
Obiettivi formativi
The main educational purpose of this course is the study of the ‘arts system’ in 20th century Italy, taking into account the ideological and political context in which works were produced and intended for the public
