Normale in Jazz
One of the most interesting languages of contemporary musical culture is that of jazz, which the Normale proposes to explore with methodological rigour, both in its technical specifics and as a transmitter of cultural messages, with the collaboration of individuals with proven and well-established experience in the sector.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Pietro Mascagni” (the “Pietro Mascagni” State Conservatory of Music), in 2025 the Scuola Normale promoted a musical initiative to encourage young talent – a series of concerts, free of charge, given by groups composed of students from the Conservatory's Jazz Department.
From 2026, the Normale further enhanced this proposal by extending the collaboration to Toscana Produzione Musica, a centre recognised by the Ministero della Cultura (the Ministry of Culture) and the Regione Toscana (the Tuscany Region), conceived at its foundation as a widespread laboratory of musical creation, with an artistic vision especially devoted to the language of jazz.
Hence, the creation of the new series Interplay. Incontri jazz tra generazioni (Interplay. Jazz meetings between generations), which sets out to disseminate the culture of jazz and make accessible through the meeting of differing identities, cultures, visions and generations, in a constant relationship between formal quality and expressive urgency, together with the depth of the ideas and values contained in the proposed projects.
