Programma

This course explores the interplay between national and international politics in two distinct historical periods: the first spans from the 1910s to the end of the Second World War; the second begins in 1945 and ends with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Module 1 explores the origins of the two main twentieth-century internationalist movements – liberal and communist – and their conflicting engagement with the fascist regime, which, while international in its ambitions, rejected internationalist principles. The module covers the period from the 1910s through the end of the Second World War. Lectures include analysis of primary sources and discussion of major historiographical debates.

Obiettivi formativi

The course introduces students to key developments in both Italian and international twentieth-century history. It also aims to foster a critical understanding of the methodologies, interpretive frameworks, and sources used in the study of contemporary history.
