The concept of consent has been widely discussed in public discourse today and, before, in feminist reflection, especially when it comes to sex. But is really the category of consent sufficient to distinguish positive sexual encounters from harmful, assaultive ones? What is the role of consent in sexuality? What is its strength? And what are its limits? We will discuss this topic with Manon Garcia (Free University of Berlin), author of La Conversation des Sexes: Philosophie du Consentment (2021) (Di cosa parliamo quando parliamo di consenso, Einaudi 2022) and of the forthcoming, in Italian too, The Joy of Consent: A Philosophy of Good Sex (2023), Carlotta Cossutta (researcher at Scuola Normale), and Federica Merenda (researcher at Scuola Superiore Sant’anna). Simona Forti (Scuola Normale) will introduce and coordinate the debate.
