Storia moderna - Inquisitions in the Early Modern Period: A Global History (PhD)

The course is designed for graduate students, but is open to any undergraduate student who has attended the two previous modules.

The final module, "Inquisitions in the Early Modern Period: A Global History," will explore the connection between the study of the Inquisition and global history. It will begin with a comparison of similar repressive systems in Protestant and non-Christian contexts. The module will also provide an overview of how the Inquisition operated and examine new cases of heresy and apostasy in non-European contexts, including Mexico, Peru, Goa, and Brazil. Additionally, it will analyze the trials of slaves, renegades, and converts across the Mediterranean.
