Meet the Editor in Chief - Opening the black box of journal publishing

This workshop focuses on journal publishing from the perspective of an editor in chief with over 20 years of editing experience, and explains the inside workings of a journal to help authors understand it from the inside out. It is composed of two parts.

Part I: the inside the journal peer review-process, strategies and advice. In this section we discuss the peer review process step by step, dispelling common misconceptions about the process, and providing strategic advice. We discuss the most common reasons for desk rejection, and several dos and don’ts for early career researchers. We will also discuss publishing career strategies and how to publish from the thesis.

Part II: Writing an abstract. The abstract is the first and sometimes only thing an editor will look at for a first decision, so they need to be strong to get to the next step.In this section we will consider what makes a good abstract, by looking at some examples and finding ways of improving them.
