Alessio Galli holds a BA in Archaeological Sciences (2018) from La Sapienza University of Rome, with a thesis on the Round Temple of Ostia Antica, and a MA degree in Classical Archaeology (2020) from the same university, with a thesis on the Corinthian capitals of the porticoes and exedras of the Forum of Augustus. He won a two-year scholarship at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens (2021-22), specializing in the Archaeology of Greek and Roman Mediterranean (2023). Since 2023 he is a PhD Candidate in Classics at Scuola Normale Superiore (XXXIX doctoral cycle).
His research interests include architectural decoration, ancient architecture, topography, and history of archaeology. He has taken part in numerous excavation and survey campaigns in Italy (Palatine, Pyrgi, Tarragon) and in Greece (Tenea, Megaride, Lemnos). He has contributed to the analysis of the architectural elements of the Hierapolis theater and to the study of the figure of Federico Halbherr, through his correspondence with Domenico Comparetti. He is currently continuing the work begun during his MA thesis regarding the study and analysis of the Corinthian capitals of the Forum of Augustus.
His PhD thesis will offer an architectural and epigraphic corpus of all the inscribed epistyles of Athens, continuing a project launched by the Italian Archaeological School of Athens in 2018. After the study of the Ancient Agora of Athens conducted for his specialization thesis, he will broaden his research to the whole city of Athens, starting with archival documents and with an architectural analysis of surviving evidence.
