Giulia Nafissi obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Classics (L-10) from the Alma Mater Studiorum, Università di Bologna in 2019, with a thesis in Greek History entitled «Plut., Vit. Per. 31. Il processo a Fidia e il ritratto di Fidia e Pericle sullo scudo dell'Athena Parthenos». She went on to complete a Master’s degree in Philology, Literature and History of the Ancient World (LM-15) at Sapienza Università di Roma, with a thesis in Greek History entitled «Atene e Delfi durante la Pentecontetia». In 2022–2023, she attended the Scuola di specializzazione in Archeologia del Mediterraneo greco e romano at the Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene, where she earned her diploma in 2024 with a thesis in Greek Epigraphy entitled «Per uno studio di IG XII 7, 62: nuova edizione e lessico agricolo e pastorale».
Since 2024, she has been a PhD student (allieva perfezionanda) at the Scuola Normale Superiore, in the program of Scienze dell’Antichità (40th Cycle). Her research focuses on the cults of Arkesine, one of the three poleis on the island of Amorgos, aiming to produce a new edition of the city’s religious inscriptions and a study of its main cults.
Her research interests lie primarily in Greek epigraphy, ancient religion, and historical studies.
She is currently collaborating on the project Mapping Ancient Polytheisms (MAP), directed by Corinne Bonnet and funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant, which investigates ancient divine onomastics.
