Abstract
In the face of the economic and ecological emergencies, a variety of initiatives have emerged in Europe in search for alternative ways to make production and consumption sustainable and expand, in this process, the economic power of citizens as workers and consumers. Cases range from the historical experiences of trade union-led arms conversion to the present ecological alternatives to 'fast fashion'. The aim is to explore trajectories of social and political change in the direction of a low carbon sustainable future.
