Teaching and training activities
The project includes high-level educational activities, which involve the participation of international scholars, the establishment of a new PhD course, and the organization of seasonal schools.
Seminars
- Sumeet Khatri (Postdoctoral Researcher, Freie Universität Berlin), in the framework of “Quantum Networks” program, 2023
- Alioscia Hamma (Full Professor, University of Naples Federico II), in the framework of “Quantum Complexity” program, 2024
- Angel Rubio (Full Professor, Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter), seminar on “Quantum Processes at the Nanoscale”, 2024
PhD course
A new PhD course titled Quantum Technology and Nanoscience has been established, with the aim of strengthening the School’s commitment to these topics, in synergy with the activities of the Department of Excellence and with the extended PNRR partnership for quantum technologies, NQSTI-National Quantum Science and Technology Institute.
Seasonal School
In 2024, the Summer School on Molecular Dynamics for Material Science, Nanotechnology and Biophysics was held in Trieste, at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA). The seasonal school, organized in collaboration with SISSA and CECAM, welcomed participants from numerous countries: the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Participants were offered a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the numerical simulation techniques widely used today in Materials Science, Nanotechnology, and Biophysics.
The school was specifically designed for Master’s students in Physics or Chemistry, who typically have a solid background in statistical mechanics and solid-state physics but only limited familiarity with the numerical algorithms and concepts that underpin theoretical work in these fields. The programme helped bridge this knowledge gap by providing an introduction to molecular dynamics simulation techniques and quantum mechanics calculations.
