Tutelage of the intellectual property

The research carried out at the SNS has led to technological innovations with industrial application offering new, original and concrete  solutions to a technical problem. These inventions are protected by the prescriptions of prevailing laws, including patents, which give exclusive rights to their owners.

The decision as to its possible territorial extension is taken on the basis of the prospects for development of the technology involved. Given the multidisciplinary and collaborative nature of the research carried out at the SNS, the inventions are often jointly owned among various  research organisations with which the SNS has strong historical ties.

At present there is a  portfolio of around fifteen patents, mainly in the context of Life science and Industry 4.0. To see the list of titles and owners of patents of the SNS, you can consult the knowledge-share platform, or the Italian public research  or JoTTO showcase.

To enquire into the state of the art of existing patents, you are advised to consult the data banks listed in the  box on the left.
