Creativity and Conflict in a World on Fire

  • Can art today be imagined as capable of making “revolution irresistible”? The means of producing, distributing, and consuming art have never been more democratized; yet it remains an open question whether art that is aesthetically accessible enough to reach broad audiences can avoid co-optation, appropriation, or censorship by corporations and governments. Drawing on twenty-five years of collaborative artistic practice, research, and activism, a new vocabulary and analytical framework are proposed for understanding and creating politically powerful art that can mobilize people toward meaningful direct action.
