Syllabus

This course analyzes international visions and projects at the end of the Cold War and their aftermath in the final decade of the 20th century. While the emergence of globalization, the implosion of bipolarism, and the rise of Western hegemony appeared to represent a peak of internationalism, recent scholarship has highlighted the failure to establish a stable new world order. The course will examine diverse subjects and political cultures, including key American policymakers, the Soviet reformers, the European actors, and the liberal and social democratic visions of a "third way."
