Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of biology.
- Interest in using animal models for research.
- Suggested for the second year.
Syllabus
- Introduction to an animal model for the study of the biology of aging (Nothobranchius furzeri).
- Housing, breeding and reproduction of the model.
- Maintenance of eggs and embryos.
- Hatching and maintenance of larval fish.
- Dissection of sacrificed adult specimens and extraction of organs and tissues for histology or molecular analysis.
- Transgenesis techniques and microinjection of fertilized embryos.
- Advanced housing systems for the analysis of biological parameters: aquariums with automatic environmental conditions controlled by Arduino.
- Basic programming in Arduino IDE: control of mechanical parts, video cameras, sensors.
