Classical electrodynamics II
Prerequisites
the class is for chemistry and physics second year students, prerequisite is the Classical Electrodynamics I class
Programme
8. Macroscopic Maxwell’s equations
9. Optical response functions
10. Phenomenological models of dielectric response
11. Dispersion relations and sum rules
12. Plasmons and polaritons
13. Basic elements of nonlinear optics
Educational aims
Learn the physical principles that govern the interaction between electromagnetic fields and material media, with particular reference to light-matter interaction. Analyze the general properties of response functions and develop phenomenological models to describe various classes of materials. Have a first contact with some advanced issues that are the subject of current research.
