Driving Transformative Environmental Governance
Local Organizers
Driving Transformative Environmental Governance (TRANSFORM) examines how civil society actors reshape environmental governance amid accelerating ecological and social crises. Through eight comparative cases across local, national, and international contexts, the project develops a framework based on two pathways: transformation by doing and transformation by demanding. Transformation by doing refers to bottom-up initiatives that prefigure and implement alternative models of resource management, socio-ecological relations, and decision-making. Transformation by demanding captures mobilisation, advocacy, protest, and political contestation aimed at reshaping normative and institutional foundations. By integrating these dynamics, the project clarifies how collective action drives institutional change and how civil society actively seeks to reconfigure governance systems.
