We examine the Schwinger-Keldysh effective theory for fluids from the perspective of the coset construction. Typically, a “time-independent gauge symmetry” is imposed to construct the effective theory. Using the coset, we clarify its origin and furthermore show that it is possible to formulate the theory using only gauge invariant variables.
