Understanding the physical processes that cause extremes in precipitation is key to manage weather and climate risk. In this seminar, our research on atmospheric rivers, which can deliver as much as half of California’s water supply in a handful of precipitation events every year, and on how climate change impacts their frequency and intensity will be presented. Our efforts on advancing physics- and AI-based prediction capabilities will also be illustrated.
