André Marinha is a PhD student at Scuola Normale Superiore and a researcher in HOME - How Members of Parliament in Africa Represent Their Constituencies. In the Spring 2023, he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University.

In his PhD thesis, he explores the nexus between social cleavages, social identities, and political behaviour in Southern Europe. His research interests lie at the crossroads of sociology, political psychology, and comparative politics, with a particular focus on how citizens engage with and make sense of politics. Over the last years, his work on political representation and constituency service in Sub-Saharan Africa has led him to develop and implement mixed-methods and multi-modal research designs to study how ordinary citizens make sense of politics and how it informs their political behavior.

Before joining the Normale, André completed a Master of Science in Sociology at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, a Post-graduation in Social Research Methods at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, and a BA in Political Science and International Relations at NOVA University of Lisbon.
