Associazione Coro Vincenzo Galilei (Vincenzo Galilei Choir Association)

The Vincenzo Galilei Choir, named after the father of Galileo, a talented musician, was established in 1973 at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, on the initiative of maestro Piero Farulli.

The Choir is composed largely of students, lecturers and researchers from the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore, as well as Pisan citizens of various professions and numerous musicians. Currently it has about 60 members, including choristers and collaborating musicians.

Its activity is included among the cultural activities of the Scuola Normale Superiore and one of its concerts is present every year in the series of concerts organized in Pisa by the Scuola.

Among the permanent conductors of the Choir we can name Fosco Corti, Piero Rossi, Francesco Rizzi and Carlo Ipata (who currently holds the office), with whom the choir has acquired a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the 1900s, from the a cappella to the symphonic-choral. Under the direction of Francesco Rizzi it came first in the Concorso nazionale Trofeo della Vittoria (1991) of Vittorio Veneto and it won the first prize in the Quarona Sesia choir competition (1996).
