Rhythms - Temporality, memory and history in social movement studies
Coordinators
This working group wishes to explore the complex and multifaceted relationship between time and politics. It brings together researchers working on temporal/longitudinal approaches to the study of collective action, focusing on diverse topics such as activists’ and collective actors’ trajectories, collective memory, continuities and transformations in collective action, cycles and waves of contention, transformative events and more. We are also interested in discussing methods capable of capturing temporality and contingency.
The group aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange between scholars from different fields, in particular political sociology, history and historical sociology, memory studies, and political philosophy. It organizes readings, seminars, workshops and conferences on relevant topics.
