The Research Assessment and Open Science Service supports the activities of research assessment, manages the Institutional Repository, promotes Open Science and supports lecturers and researchers in the correlated activities.
Here below is a detailed account of our main activities:

Support and Promotion of Open Science Activities

Management of the Institutional Repository IRIS:

  • Supporting research staff in uploading their publications to IRIS.
  • Validating metadata and full texts in accordance with existing rights.
  • Developing operational guidelines to help authors navigate the process.
  • Managing copyright issues, particularly regarding the right to deposit permitted versions of publications in open access in IRIS, in line with publisher policies.
  • Monitoring open access publications within the Repository.

Research Data Management

  • Helping research staff to manage their data according to FAIR principles and to draft Data Management Plans.
  • Providing support during the proposal submission phase for externally funded projects, including guidance on related obligations and recommended Open Science practices.

Training Activities for the SNS Community on Open Science Topics

Drafting editorial agreements for open access publications supported  by the Scuola Normale Superiore


Research Assessment

  • Supporting institutional activities led by the Pro-rector for research, assessment and ranking (VQR and internal assessment), as well as the research structures of the SNS (laboratories/centres) and PhD programmes (annual accreditation).
  • Preparing final reports related to projects, research outputs and Open Science activities.


Support for Institutional Authorities

  • Drafting proposals for resolutions for the Academic Senate and the Executive Council, along with regulatory amendments on relevant topics.
  • Assisting the SNS Commission on Open Science by providing reports related to Open Science activities.
