Preliminary Information

The academic year of the Normale begins on November 1st. On 18 October each year, the anniversary of its foundation is celebrated. Lessons and seminars are usually held between October and June, with a 3 week break for the Christmas holidays and a 1 week break for the Easter holidays.

The first semester runs from October to February, the second from March to June.

As the teaching is based on seminars, the Normale does not adopt a credit system for its courses, the workload of which is therefore expressed in hours.
At the end of a study period at the SNS, the competent offices issue a certificate to visiting students attesting to the activities carried out and stating the total number of hours, any exams taken and the relative marks. In this way, the home university will be able to convert the data into educational credits, according to its own assessment criteria.

The students of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy and of the Faculty of Sciences attend lectures and have access to the facilities in Pisa.

The students of the Department of Political-Social Sciences attend lectures and have access to the facilities in Florence.
