Grief, anger and solidarity: Turkey and Syria under the rubbles

What happened in Turkey, Syria, and the rest of the region directly results from the rule and reproduction of neoliberal capital, where an ever-expanding project of artifi cially induced, ecologically unsustainable urbanisation takes precedence over the lives of both human and non-human beings. The interests of profit for the few and the overwhelming majority of ordinary people have been exposed as an irreconcilable and violent contradiction.

The proposed event will invite the voices and experiences of activists, members of NGOs, scholars, and others who have been directly involved in dealing with the February 6 earthquakes and its aftermath to honour the memory of those who lost their lives, highlight some of the immediate politico-humanitarian interventions at the local, national, and international level; analyse and understand why the earthquake in Turkey took so many lives; unmask the cynical and totally inadequate “responses” of the government; and finally, explore possibilities for increased people to people’s solidarity in the here and now.
