The European Correspondence to Jacob Burckhardt

Final Conference of ERC Project “The European Correspondence to Jacob Burckhardt”

This international conference is dedicated to the European Correspondence to Jacob Burckhardt, to the epistle genre with its digital fruition and potentialities, and to modern epistolographic studies.Correspondence corpora provide a framing structure for understanding and communicating literary, scientific and artistic tradition in European Culture.Indeed, thanks to its ability to adapt, the epistle genre as a whole reflects the society evolution through time. The increasing diffusion of digital resources in the Humanities is giving large contribution to the dematerialisation and easier access to previously isolated cultural capitals, also for future reference and cross cultural consultation.Digital potentiality is the most recent step in this process. It is becoming increasingly clear that research in this field urges both technical implementation and the elaboration of new methods, concepts and tools.
