PLINY’S PANEGYRIC

A Workshop

The hyperbolic rhetoric of Pliny’s Panegyric combines sharp political analysis with shrewd psychological insight. This fascinating prototype of specula principum across the centuries has received considerable attention over the past two decades, and the second Cortona Colloquium on Latin Literature will offer the opportunity for a comprehensive reassessment of its structure, style and ideology. As in the inaugural edition of the Colloquium in 2016, each speaker will be responsible for introducing a section of the text, and all participants will join in the discussion, which will be at the heart of the event.
