Contatti

The aim of this set of two lectures is to give an introduction to generalized symmetries, including higher-form and non-invertible ones, and also provide a hint of the current themes of research in this field (of course with a personal bias).

We will go from Noether's theorem to the realization of symmetries as topological defects, thus naturally leading to the aforementioned generalizations. We will discuss in detail some examples: Maxwell theory and topological BF theory. The latter features prominently in the SymTFT paradigm for encoding symmetries of QFTs, and we will try to touch on the recent results for QFTs with continuous symmetries.

You can attend online via Zoom.
