Symmetries of Vanishing Nonlinear Love Numbers of Schwarzschild Black Holes
Abstract
The conservative tidal response of self-gravitating objects, induced by an external gravitational tidal field, is parametrized in terms of a set of coefficients, which are commonly referred to as Love numbers. It is well known that the Love numbers of black holes in general relativity are exactly zero. This result is derived by solving the linearized static Einstein equations for the perturbations.
In the talk, I will discuss the role of nonlinearities in the calculation of the tidal deformability of compact objects, showing that the tidal Love numbers of black holes remain zero at higher orders in perturbation theory. I will show that this is a consequence of a fully nonlinear symmetry in the theory.
